Well, the IPCC estimates that we will not be able to achieve the Paris Accord Goals – that we might reach 1,5° global warming already in the 2040s. It is very obvious that we are burning through the CO2 emissions at an alarming rate – and certainly not slowing down.
And still – there are many climate change deniers or ignorers. Chinese hoax – I don´t care – I don´t feel it … whatever is their main argument. It is a sham.
Usually we believe in scientific facts. If we push a glass to the edge of the table, we know that gravity will take its toll. And just because we choose to ignore it – the glass will still break, if I push it too far. So, why is it so hard to believe in the science of climate change?
It is simply too easy to ignore. The people who are currently suffering from the consequences – by drought or rising sea levels or other – they live conveniently far out of our way, at least when you are one of the lucky citizens of an industrialized nation. While creating the lion share of the problem, we also are best at ignoring the consequences.
Simply because we are afraid what it is going to cost us.
But the more we chose to ignore it – the harder the consequences will hit. The time to act is now – while we see the first harbingers of doom on the horizon.
