Travel Ban

While Trump is trying to push his travel ban, which is not really a travel ban in his view, past so-called judges – he might have misjudged the effect this regulation will have on the traveling public. Great scenery and beautiful landscapes are not enough to overcome the nagging feeling that the US have changed profoundly.

So, I declare my very own travel ban on the US. If business would force me to break this ban, I will do my utmost to circumvent it. I will not travel to the US on vacation as long as something like the travel ban is in place. And I will continue to do so when I really would have to give up my passwords to security. I assume that the NSA has them anyway.

Everyone who is actively protesting or joining some cause to uphold democratic values in US society. I will have to applaud you from afar.

Oh, and when the #FirstOrange makes his appearance here in Hamburg for the G20 this summer – I fully expect he will have his alt-right wingman Bannon in tow. Rest assured that Hamburg will state the obvious: We have moral and ethical reason to object to hosting them But we could show them the memorial site at Neuengamme to teach them some on Holocaust history.

This Sunday there´s a rally here in Hamburg – on the central Rathausmarkt – to demonstrate our belief in the EU and its great achievements. It might come with a healthy dose of criticism – but we will try our best to make the EU shine. The post as leader of the free world is up for grabs …
